[Class 88 (ii)] In miniature pianos, i.e. pianos wherein the mechanism for actuating the hammers is wholly or mainly below the level of the keyboard, the soundboard 1 carrying the bridges 7, 8, for the strings is flat and is mounted on a marginal fillet 3 extending along all four edges of the iron frame 2 ; the board extends over the whole area or almost the whole area of the iron frame, including the part occupied by the wrest plank 6 which is disposed at the back of the top portion of the iron frame and parallel to it. The belly bars 4 may extend across the rear face of the soundboard. Or they may be arranged on the front face of the sound board to extend transversely of the general direction of the string bridge or bridges, the bridge or bridges and/or the belly bars being recessed to interengage at points of intersection ; or the belly bars may extend substantially parallel to the general direction of the bridge or bridges without intersection thereof. Dumbing battens 9, 10 for the upper corners or for all of the corners of the soundboard may be fitted.
