Abstract
541,516. Converting; electromagnetic interrupters. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. May 27, 1940, No. 13911/41. Convention date, May 27, 1939. [Class 38 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXVII] In an inverter system comprising a vibratory commutator switch 16 and transformer 13 for supplying from a low voltage D.C. source 11, 12 such as a train lighting battery high voltage A.C. to discharge lamps 46, 53 of the fluorescent type, at least part of the core of the driving magnet 27 of the switch is made of small cross-section so as to saturate on rise of battery voltage and thus avoid increase in amplitude of vibration of the switch blade. The switch comprises two sets of parallel-connected fixed contacts 20-23 and equal division of current therebetween is ensured by the provision of resistances 42-45 connected as shown. The lamp circuits are designed to take leading and lagging current respectively so as to produce regulation of load current in the manner described in Specification 541,490.
