[Class 44] In a sliding-clasp fastener having completely separable stringers 8, 9 the open end fitting comprises a die-cast socket member having a pair of substantially similar parallel sockets 20, 21 therein, provided with slots 26, 27 to receive the tapes. Socket 20, preferably tapered, is closed at the bottom 24 and receives the pin member 11 which, together with spacing member 12 and reinforcing tape 13 is provided on stringer 8 as described in Specification 439,744. Socket 21 extends through the .fitting and the beaded edge 5 of stringer 9 is permanently secured therein either directly or, as shown, with the use of an auxiliary sleeve 14 of folded metal previously clamped over the bead. As shown, sleeve 14, which is tapered and has notches 17 and cutaway portions 16, is inserted in the correspondingly tapered socket 21 till abutting against a shoulder 25, and is secured by indenting the side walls into engagement with notches 17. Alternatively, sleeve 14 and socket 211 are not tapered, and the fitting is secured by clamping or compressing on to the sleeve. The fitting has wings 22, 23 at its upper end which, in co-operation with the cut-away portion 16 of the sleeve, serve to position and hold the slider when the parts: are being assembled or detached. The fitting may be plated, enamelled, lacquered or otherwise treated prior to affixing.
