Abstract
541,016. Valves. DICK, B., and BEARD, J. A. May 7, 1940, No. 8200. [Class 135] A valve device particularly adapted for controlling the flow of fluid to and from a master cylinder used for actuating vehicle brakes &c. comprises two valve members seating one on the other and opening in opposite directions one valve member being formed of moulded resilient material, such as rubber, rubber compound or synthetic rubber with an annular rib generally triangular in cross-section adapted to be engaged by a flat surface on the other valve member. The resilient valve member 13 has an annular metal re-inforcing plate 15 the outer periphery of which has an upturned flange 16 to form an abutment for a loading spring compressed by the movement of a piston in the master cylinder. The inner edge of the plate is formed with a series of fingers 16<SP>1</SP> serving as guides for the spindle 17 of the flat-faced valve 19. A light spring 21 arranged between the valve member 13 and an abutment 20 secured to the spindle 17 serves to urge the valve 19 into contact with rib 18. The resilient valve has a further rib 22 with a convex surface 23 adapted to engage a flat sealing surface 24 first with line contact and afterwards with surface contact so squeezing out any oil film which may have formed.
