Abstract

540,460. Typewriters. EL SAYED EL TAHER, A. M. May 1, 1940, No. 7836. [Class 100 (iv)] in typewriters tor oriental languages wherein types are provided for printing complete characters and combination characters, some of the latter being operated by dead keys, the types are arranged in two cases only, all the complete-character types and most of the combination-character types being in the lower case, and the types for numerals, arithmetical signs and punctuation marks being in the lower case. The arrangement renders infrequent the use of the shift-key, and thereby increases the speed of typing. The Figure shows an Arabic Keyboard, in which each key is provided with an upper-case and a lower-case character. The lower-case characters include complete and combination characters such as 7 and 8 respectively, and dots 1 .. 6. The upper-case characters include numerals, arithmetical signs, and punctuation marks.
