In a typewriter for oriental languages having single and double-letter spacing, type-bodies associated with single letter-spacing type-levers are provided with vowel symbols and accents mounted towards the left of the type-bodies, while those type-bodies associated with double letter-spacing type-levers are provided with main characteris mounted towards the right of the type-bodies. This avoids the use of dead keys normally required for printing accents &c. and reduces the number of type-bodies that have to be specially shaped.
