Abstract
540,457. Valve amplifying circuits. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., HELLER, D. M., and LEYTON, E. M. April 17, 1940, No. 6924. [Class 40 (v)] In an amplifier liable to overload if operated without a drive or with an unsuitable load, a protective relay operated by direct current is connected between the screen grid of the valve and a point of fixed potential. Fig. 3 shows an arrangement in which the power supply is reduced by a series resistance 9 in the mains supply adapted to be short-circuited by contacts a1 of relay A. Relay A may be connected between the cathode and the screen grid or, as shown, may be connected between the screen grid and a potentiometer connected across the high tension supply. A manually operated switch may be provided, Figs 1 and 2 (not shown), to start the valve on full power, alternatively, as shown, auxiliary contact a2 which is opened when contact a1 is closed may be provided to obtain automatic starting.
