Abstract

355,891. Gramophones. MAINS RADIO GRAMOPHONES, Ltd. and ROBERTS, E. H., 8, Vaughan Street, Bradford, Yorkshire. July 9, 1930, No. 20748. [Class 40 (ii).] Stopping.-Gramophones with electric pick-ups are stopped at the end of a record by the action of a thermionic relay influenced from the amplifying circuit of the pick-up, this relay operating, when the grid of the valve is not excited by the pick-up, as at the end of the playing grooves of a record, to arrest an electric driving motor or to apply a brake. The pick-up is connected through a transformer a to the grid c<2> of a valve c which is negatively biased as that the anode current is small. A relay g in the anode' circuit closes a switch h<2> in a line h so long as the pick-up imposes oscillations on the grid and maintains a current through the valve. At the end of a record, oscillations are no longer imposed on the grid and the relay then allows the switch h<2> to open, whereupon the motor circuit is broken or a brake applied. The relay conveniently embodies a tilting mercury switch.
