Abstract

540,213. Magnetic separator for removing metals from textiles. TAYLOR & SON, Ltd., F. W. Feb. 2, 1940, Nos. 2114 and 2115. Convention dates, April 19, 1939 and Nov. 10, 1!939. [Classes 72 and 82(i)] [Also in Group XXXV] Metal particles are extracted from webs of textile materials by feeding the web past a magnet which withdraws the particles from the web. The web 2 passing over a drum 8 is fed on to the card comb 3 from which it is detached by a comb 4, and passes on to an endless belt 5' over which is arranged a magnet 9 vertically adjustable above the web. The metal free web passes between calendering rolls 6. The magnetic separators may comprise side walls 10, 11 of soft steel connected by a plate 13 of non-magnetic alloy consisting of lead 50 per cent. tin, 49 per cent. and phosphor-tin 1 per cent. Inside the casing are series windings 14, the rounded edge 16 of the separator being in close proximity to the web.
