Abstract

539,975. Roller and roller-and-breast mills. SONSTHAGEN, L. A., and KEENOK CO., Ltd. Jan. 25, 1940, No. 1534. [Class 59] The rollers 4 and 6 are arranged as. a unit which may be moved, in a direction parallel with the plane containing the axes 4a, 6a, to adjust the position of the roller 4 with respect to the roller 7. The roller 4 is journalled in frames 3 slidably mounted in the main frame 2, and the roller 6 is journalled in plates 5 slidably mounted in the frames 3. The frames 3 are moved by hydraulic means, as shown by a pump 10 operated from a moving part of the mill and communicating with cylinders a, b having pistons c which bear against the underside of the frames, or each cylinder may have a screw-operated hand-controlled piston at the lower end thereof, whereby the pressure may be adjusted and maintained. The roller 6 also may be moved by hydraulic means or, as shown, by a screwthreaded rod e having a pinion g meshing with a gear on a hand-operated shaft h. The grinding bar 11 is urged against the roller 7 by hydraulic cylinders 12 mounted on an element 14 which may be swung clear of the roller. The material to be ground is fed from a hopper 14a between rollers 4, 6, passes on to roller 7 and beneath the grinding bar 11, and is removed by a scraper 15. Material which will not pass under the bar falls down a shoot 16 into the hopper 14a. In a modification the axis of the roller 7 is offset to the left and the bar 11 is disposed on the left side thereof.
