Abstract

539,956. Chain saw machines. DANIELS, Ltd., T. H. and J., and DANIELS, J. L. April 24, 1940, No. 7392. [Class 145 (ii)] A machine for felling trees and cutting them into logs comprises a chain saw 1 supported by a guide plate 8 which is detachably secured to the gear-box 4 of the driving unit, the gear-box being angularly adjustable about the driving shaft so that the saw may be used for horizontal, vertical, or inclined cutting whilst the driving unit which comprises an internal combustion engine 3 is maintained in a vertical position. The guide plate has both edges similarly curved and grooved so as to be reversible, and replaceable hardened steel bearing strips are provided in the base of the grooves. The guide plate is attached to the gear-box by a pin and key-hole slot arrangement together with a locking plate which is extended at 4b to form a work stop. The supporting bracket 6 at the outer end of the saw incorporates a tank 6a for lubricant which is fed on to the saw through a channel 6b in the guide plates. A stretcher bar 31 serving also as a saw guard and sufficiently thin to pass through the saw cut may be pivoted as shown.
