Abstract
539,738. Ventilating vehicles. PORSCHE, F. Oct. 18, 1938, No. 30106. Convention date, Nov. 30, 1937. [Class 137] [Also in Groups XXXI and XXXII] In a vehicle body formed from sheet-metal pressing and including substantially-closed longitudinal passages formed by the pressings, these passages serve to guide air currents intended, for ventilating and/or heating the interior of the body, or for providing combustion air for the engine. In the construction shown the body is formed with a longitudinal conduit 31 at each side of the roof 4, and combustion air passes through an opening 33 in the off-side wheel housing 2 through a conduit 34 under the cowl or bonnet 1, a conduit 35 in the corresponding windscreen pillar 6, the offside conduit 31 and finally to the rear engine (not shown) in the engine housing 30. Air for ventilating purposes is forced by a blower through a jacket surrounding the engine exhaust pipe and passes through the near-side conduit 31 to a conduit 36 in the other wind-screen pillar. Part of this ventilating air flows through a slot 37 against the windscreen and the remainder flows into the body through an opening 39 near the floor 28. The conduits 35, 36 are formed by the pillars 6, the cowl 1, inner reinforcing sheets 11 and partitions 40, 41. The conduits 31 are formed in the roof beams 7, Fig. 5, and a gap 42 is left through which the conduit may be sprayed with paint, this gap being afterwards closed by a rubber or like strip 44.
