Carriages; hoods; bodies.-In vehicles of the kind having an enclosed passenger compartment in rear of the driver's seat or compartment, which is usually open, the driver's compartment is provided with side doors ox members which extend up to the cant-rail and with a detachable or foldable hood or cover. The doors 12, Fig. 1, are carried by the windscreen pillar 10, extend up to the cant-rail, and close on a pillar 11. A fixed roof portion 11 extends partly over the passenger compartment, the cover being completed, as shown, by a foldable rear portion 15. The junction is made weather-tight by means of flaps 18, 19, Fig. 3, and the frames 20, 17 of the respective portions of the passenger compartment cover are secured firmly by a toggle fastening 23, 24. The pillar 11, Fig. 4, a cross-member 37, and the cant-rail 31 are secured together by brackets 34, 38, air spaces 35, 36 being interposed to prevent chattering and the transmission of storing. The cant-rail may be subdivided with air spaces between the ends of the subdivisions for the same reasons. The transverse screen 40, Fig. 6, of the passenger compartment is secured to the pillars 11 by bolts having resilient washers 42 interposed between the pillars 11 and the framing of the screen 40.
