Abstract

539,713. Cylinders. DEHN. F. B. (Continental Motors Corporation). March 19, 1940, No. 5110. [Class 7 (ii)] An engine cylinder is constructed of machined forged sections 13, 14 and an intermediate cast section 15 including the non-machinable ports and passages, the sections being rabbeted at 23 and connected together and to the cylinder head 39 and crank case 10 by bolts 30 fitted with spring steel washers 40 to allow for expansion. The lower ends of the bolts 30 are provided with elongated heads 32, which are inserted through corresponding slots 33 in the crank case, and then turned through a rightangle.
