Abstract

539,589. Lubricating yarns. BRITISH CELANESE, Ltd. March 16, 1940, No. 4917. Convention date, March 25,1939. [Class 15 (ii)] [Also in Group III] Cords, particularly tyre cords, are made from yarns of cotton or regenerated cellulose lubricated with tricresyl phosphate applied before the formation of the cord; a light mineral oil and a soap, e.g. triethanolamine oleate may be added to the tricresyl phosphate. The amount of tricresyl phosphate used is preferably from 0.5 to 5 per cent on the weight of the yarn. The yarn may be of high tenacity regenerated cellulose which may be obtained by stretching cellulose acetate yarns up to 200-500 per cent and subsequently substantially completely saponifying the stretched yarn.
