Abstract
539,449. Cartoon kinematograph films. ANIMATAGRAPH CORPORATION, Ltd. Sept. 20, 1939, No. 26264. Convention date, Sept. 21, 1938. [Class 97 (i)] Cartoon films are produced by means of a light source projecting an image of a threedimensional object on to a translucent screen, the image being photographed by a camera on the other side of the screen, and the object and camera being capable of movement to and from the screen during operation of the camera so that the film images vary in form over a series of frames ; the object and camera may also be movable transversely, and additional objects, either stationary or movable with or independently of the first object, may also be provided. As shown, the apparatus comprises a light source 6, a cylindrical rotatable screen 1, objects 4, 5, respectively carried by a transparent support 2 and by a translucent or transparent rotatable cylinder 3, and a camera 7. The source 6, support 2, and camera 7 are mounted on a carriage 17 rotatable around a fixed central standard 9 ; an extension 22 of the support 2 simultaneously rotates the cylinder 3. Handles 29, 35, 39 on screwed rods enable the camera and support 2 to be moved separately or simultaneously towards or from the screen, and a handle and screwed rod 42 enable the camera to be moved laterally. Locking means holding the parts in adjusted positions are described. The objects 4, 5 have offset parts 4<SP>1</SP>, 5<SP>1</SP>, are preferably translucent, and may be coloured or rendered fluorescent ; the screen 1 may carry scenic effects. The object 4 may be pivoted or fixed to a pivoted arm.
