In projection apparatus for positioning components on a substrate 16, a photographic image 11 of the correct arrangement is projected by means of semi-silvered mirrors 15 on to the substrate which is viewed with microscope 9. The components are then moved to the lie within the slightly enlarged outlines of the projected component images. The apparatus may be used also for inspection purposes.
