A method of reproducing an object in lower relief comprises photographing the object O 1 with a camera to produce a first positive picture, the camera being positioned at X 1 at a distance from an ordinate or reference line Y chosen for the object with the central axis of the camera lens falling on the ordinate line, photographing the same object to produce a second positive picture by a camera at X 2 having the central axis of its lens also falling on the ordinate line Y and making a chosen angle α‹ with the central axis of the first camera lens, projecting a focused image of the second positive picture from the position of the second camera on to a standard plane GP containing the ordinate and intersecting the central axis of the first camera lens at right angles, photographing the projected image from a third camera position X 3 with the camera axis intersecting the ordinate and forming a chosen angle (3‹ with the second camera axis to form a third positive picture, locating a block of clay in the standard plane GP, projecting the first positive picture theron from the first camera position and simultaneously projecting the third positive picture on to the block from the third camera position and locally raising or cutting off the block until the first and third pictures coincide on it. The reference line or ordinate may as shown pass through the middle of the object so that the process is repeated to reproduce the other half of the object or the ordinate may pass through one margin of the object or be located outside it.
