Abstract

539,141. Electric hot-plates. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Oct. 9, 1940, No. 15054. Convention date, Oct. 10, 1939. [Class 39 (iii)] In an electric hot-plate of the sheathed wire type, the convolutions of the heating element are supported on radially disposed strips which are free to move to allow for expansion of the heating element. A heating element 10 formed in a partial circle, and 11 formed in a spiral, are supported on three diverging strips, 23. 24, 25, the strips 23, 24 being rigid with a socket 26, in which the strip 25 is received with a close sliding fit. The two strips 23, 24 and socket 26 may be formed by bending a single sheet metal blank, Fig. 5 not shown. The outer ends of the strips are supported in openings in the vertical wall 20 of a ring 16 which rests on the top plate 18 of an electric range. A reflector 41a is supported below the hot-plate. In a modification, four equally spaced supporting strips are used, and are mounted in a central sheet metal socket member in a manner which allows slight radial movement.
