Abstract

538,804. Military shelters. PRYOR, E. J, Feb. 15, 1940, No. 2932. [Class 20 (i)] [Also in Groups V and XXI] A portable shelter comprises a cupola or dome of vegetable fibre impregnated and bound with a bitumen compound and protected by sheet material such as tin or tarred paper. The vegetable fibre is preferably cork or wood chips cut to. resemble a stone aggregate and the bitumen compound comprises natural asphalt, lime, and mineral matter. The dome is provided with a manhole 12 and cover 13 having an aperture 25 which may serve for ventilation, and also with sighting apertures 26 for guns or rifles, each aperture being provided with a stop plate secured to the dome by a chain. The dome may be provided with an outwardly sloping edge 20 between which and a corresponding edge 16 of a hollow support a ball race is positioned to enable the dome to be easily rotated. The dome may be -fixed in position by a wedge inserted in registering openings in the edges of the dome and'the support. In a modification, the dome is supported by uprights 31 having projections 35 to enter corresponding recesses in the edge of the dome.
