Abstract

745,540. Wooden posts. EBDON; T. J., EBDON, T. D., and EBDON, D. J. March 12, 1954 [March 12,1953], No. 6810/53. Class 20(1). A post 6, e.g. a lamp standard, is formed by a plurality of wood boards 10, 11 extending lengthwise of the post and secured along their meeting edges by a waterproof adhesive, e.g. a synthetic resin cement, the base of the post being covered by a sheet 14 of bitumen the meeting edges of which are melted by heat to form a joint. The sheet 14 extends about 6 inches further up the post than the intended ground level, and the upper edge is melted to adhere to the wood. The post may be formed of upwardly tapered boards 10 and intervening boards 11 with parallel edges, meeting edges being bevelled and having strengthening strips 12. A wood plug closes the bottom of the post and a wood cap 7 closes the top, the cap carrying a plate 19 having a spigot 8 to receive a lamp. Alternatively the cap 7 may form or carry a projecting arm for a lamp. A removable wooden cover 22 seating against a ring 23 permits access to a time switch or other electrical equipment, and ventilation holes, as 18, may be formed top and bottom. The post may be of any cross section 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8-sided posts being mentioned.
