Abstract

538,484. Gasholders. McKEE, J., Feb. 2, 1940, No. 2053. [Class 54] A flexible gas container such as is fitted to the roof of a motor vehicle is fitted internally with elastic tension straps or springs constraining the container to collapse as the gas pressure diminishes. The gas container may consist of a bag 4 secured in a shallow crate 5 by ropes 11, 16 passing through eyes 12 on the crate and tabs 13, 15 on the bag. The tension straps 8 are arranged in convenient planes and connect a central row of tabs 7 on the floor to tabs 9 on the top and sides of the bag. The end tabs 7 are similarly attached by tension straps to tabs on the upper parts of the bag ends. Each tab consists of a folded piece of strip material stitched to a rubber sheet 10 secured to the bag. The lower part of the bag may be provided with pockets fitting over hinged plates secured to a fixed platform. The Provisional Specification states that the upper part of the bag may be formed with a pocket or pockets to receive a wooden bar or weight to assist the bag to collapse.
