Abstract

An aerodynamically shaped rigid container 1 is mounted on the vehicle roof. The gas is hold by an inner flexible envelope 2. A valve 3 is provided for the filling and emptying of the gas envelope. In another embodiment a flexible membrane extends across the inside of the rigid container 1 to form, with part of the rigid container 1, the gas container. The rigid container 1 can also be mounted under the vehicle. <IMAGE>

Description

VEHICLE MOUNTED GAS HOLDER This invention enables a vehicle to carry a supply of gaseous fuel at near atmospheric pressure.
During the Second World War some vehicles were powered by domestic gas.
This was carried in a so called "gas bag" which was mounted on the roof of the car or lorry and was supported by an open frame.
This invention encloses the "gas bag" in an aerodynamically shaped rigid container, the gas is stored either in a flexible inner bag or envelope or by a flexible membrane separating the two halves of the outer rigid container the gas being stored between the membrane and half of the outer container.
The complete assembly could be mounted on the roof of a vehicle or under the body of a motor lorry or trailer.
Some examples of the invention are shown with reference to the drawings.
Figure 1 shows the gas container mounted on the roof of a vehicle.
Figure 2 shows the gas container under the body of a lorry.
Figure 3 shows the gas held by a separate flexible inner container 2 inside the aerodynamically shaped outer container I with the valve assembly 3 for the filling or emptying of gas.
Figure 4 shows the gas contained by means of membrane 4 separating the two halves of the outer container 1 with the gas held in the space 5. A valve 3 is provided for the filling or emptying of gas.

Claims (4)

1. A rigid container to be carried on the roof of under the body of a vehicle.
2. The rigid container as in Claim 1. to be aerodynamically shaped.
3. The rigid container as in Clams 1 and 2 will enclose a flexible membrane enabling it to store a gaseous fuel.
4. The rigid container with flexible inner membrane as in Claim 3 to be fitted with a valve enabling '-t to be fillel or emptied of the gaseous fuel.
