Abstract

538,190. Applying adhesives. ARMSTRONG CORK CO. Jan. 18, 1940, No. 1137. Convention date, Feb. 14, 1939. [Class 95] An adhesive applying device comprises an applicator body having an adhesive-receiving chamber, a distributing head associated with the applicator body and having a plurality of ports communicating with the chamber, said body also having an axial bore which receives an axially movable valve having a supply passage therein leading to a radially disposed discharge passage, yielding means being provided to hold the valve normally in closed posdtion with the outlet end of the discharge passage within the bore, while relative movement of the body and valve is effective to open the valve by bringing the outlet end of the discharge passage into a position within the chamber. Such a device, for applying adhesive to the inside of a closure body 3, is shown in the drawings, and comprises an applicator 5 carried by a reciprocating arm 6. Adhesive, from the reservoir 7, passes through the conduit 9 to the feeder 10 in the valve body 11 which is axially movable within the applicator body 13. The bottom of the adhesivereceiving chamber 21 consists of a distributing head 22 having ports 23 and grooves 24. On lowering the arm 6, the head 22 is brought into engagement with the work 3, and the valve body 11 is lowered against the action of the spring 15, adhesive passing through the passages 14. Adjustment is possible by means of the nuts 26, 27, and interchangeable distributing heads may be provided.
