Abstract
537,882. Driving belts. CONRADISON. C. M. Feb. 28. 1940, No. 3694. Convention date, March 1, 1939. [Class 80 (i)] A rotary power transmission belt includes a thin metal strip which is wound upon itself a plurality of times to form a laminated band, the convolutions of which are maintained in tight frictional mutual engagement. As shown in Figs. 2 and 4, the band 20 is covered on each side by leather or fibre 32 and blocks 34, 35 of wood or the like are clamped thereto by bolts 36. The sides of the blocks are bevelled to fit a V-pulley and covered with leather 38. The ends of the metal strip are bent round blocks 34a, 35a, and clamped in position. The blocks 34, 35 may be replaced by steel pressings. In a modification the band 20 is completely enclosed by a leather or like casing. In another modification a number of metal bands 20a, Fig. 13, are spaced by fibre 60 and held together by a vulcanized wrapping 61 the whole being enclosed in moulded rubber 62. As shown in Fig. 9 the ends of a metal band 20 are provided with loops 27 and connected by a ring 29. In a modification the ends are fixed to the adjacent ply.
