Abstract
537,880. Taximeters. FABRIKS AKTIEBOLAGET HALDATAXAMETERN. Feb. 22, 1940, No. 3381. Convention date, March 2, 1939. [Class 106 (iii)] Relates to mixed time and distance meters in which the totalizers are actuated through oneway clutches and pinions from a road wheel and from a clock respectively and consists in that the pinions and/or drivers co-operating therewith are provided with friction braking devices to minimize errors at their coupling. The totalizers, not shown, are moved step by step to a tooth 3 on a lever 1 pivoted at 2 and adapted to engage and be reciprocated by a toothed wheel 4 loose on the shaft 5. This wheel is actuated by a spring 6 connected to the shaft by a pin 7 at one end and at the other to a pin 8 extending through a tooth of the wheel 4 into a recess 9 in a washer 10 fast at the shaft 5. In the path of the pin 8 are stop pins 11, 12 which are removably inserted into holes in the washer 10 to determine the time period or distance covered by the initial charge. A spring pawl 15 normally retains the wheel 4 in the inoperative position, the stop pin 11 owing to action of spring 6 being in contact with pin 8. Pinions 16, 17 carried by pivoted arms 20, 21 are driven by a vehicle wheel and by a clock respectively in known manner. Pinions 22, 23 loosely mounted on the shaft 5 may be coupled thereto by one-way clutches 24, 25. These pinions are provided with brakes. Fig. 2 shows two friction clamps 33, 34 on arms 37, 38, pivoted at 35, 36, embracing the hub of pinion 22 and connected together by a spring 39. Fig. 1 shows the clamps disengaged by the action of a pin 40 on the lever 1 against an extension 41 of the arm 38. The brake for pinion 23 consists of an additional pinion 43 in line with it which pinion gears with a pinion spring pressed axially against the lever 21 carrying it. When the meter is switched on for registration, the lever arm 1 is released and falls until pin 46 strikes pivoted lever 15. This movement releases the brake device which grips pinion 22. At about the same time, during which wheels 16, 17 are engaged with pinions 22, 23, the friction pinion is brought into engagement with pinion 43. If the cab is at rest when the meter is switched on, the shaft 5 will at first be rotated clockwise through pinion 17 by clockwork. Upon the cab starting, the driver 16 becomes operative and takes over the drive. The brake device prevents back lash between wheels 17, 23. When the shaft 5 rotates so that stop pin 12 strikes the pin 8, the wheel 4 will be caught by the shaft 5 and driven counter-clockwise. The pawl 15 slides over a tooth and into the next gap. Before this, the lever 1 is released by the upper end of lever 15 slipping off pin 46 and the tooth 3 is engaged and the totalizer actuated.
