Abstract

235,835. Wayne Tank & Pump Co., (Assignees of Baker, L. E.). June 21, 1924, [Convention date]. Zeroizing-mechanism. - The indicating element of a counting mechanism particularly for use with a liquid dispensing apparatus is adapted to be released from the actuating means after the desired quantity of liquid has been delivered to permit the element to return to its initial position under the action of a weight. The mechanism as shown applied to a liquid dispensing apparatus having a pump with a rack-operated piston comprises a shaft f to which is secured a pinion f<14> that gears with a pair of gear wheels n, n<1> loosely mounted on a 'hollow boss n<1> and on the wheel n respectively and connected together by a spring surrounding a pin on one of the wheels and fitting into a hole in the other. The pin extends through a recess in the second wheel and permits slight movement to take up lost motion. A stud n<12> on the wheel n engages the fork n<13> of a one-way ratchet clutch ring n<14> adapted to impart movement to a shaft n' on which is mounted a similar ratchet clutch to prevent the shaft being rotated in the reverse direction. On the latter clutch is mounted a gear wheel n<23> which rotates only when the pump is delivering liquid to advance a wheel n<24> fixed to a hollow drum n<25>. Within the drum is arranged a sleeve n<28> that carries a disc n<29> and is surrounded by a spring tending to force the sleeve and disc to the left in Fig. 2 against a pinion n<33> fixed on the end of the central shaft n<32>. A pinion n34 at the other end of the shaft has a coned hub adapted to engage a corresponding bore on the end of the drum n<25>. The pinions n<33>, n<34> gear with a. corresponding wheel g<12>, and each imparts rotation to a spindle g<11> which carries a pointer g<1> and a pinion g<10> meshing with a sector g<6> formed in an oval-shaped weight member g' at one end g<5>. When the pointers g' are to be returned to the zero position a push pin o, Fig. 4, is pressed in to displace a pin o<2> that is adapted to force inwardly the disc n<29> to disengage the conical clutch to permit the shaft n<32> to rotate freely, whereupon the weights g<4> carry the pointers back to zero until arrested by the stops g'.
