Abstract
537,717. Electric incandescent lamp filaments. SIEMENS ELECTRIC LAMPS & SUPPLIES, Ltd., ALDINGTON, J. N., and EASON, H. A. E. Jan. 18, 1940, No. 1069. [Class 39 (ii)] The filament of a high wattage lamp is made up of a number of separate helical sections 42 ... 45, each section being self-supporting over its length and secured to rigid supports 48 at its ends. The ends of the sections may be secured by coils of tungsten or molydenum wire 46 welded to the supports 48 and, in the case of the end sections, to cross-pieces joining the ends of stout rods 36, 37 clamped to conducting elements entering the bulb through a bifurcated foot-tube 34. The intermediate supports are carried by insulating blocks 40 of de-gassed steatite carried by the rods 36, 37. In an alternative construction, Fig. 1 (not shown), the ends of the filament sections are coiled and the coils slipped over the ends of supporting rods.
