Abstract

[Class 40 (i)] The centrifugal governor 2 of an internalcombustion engine 1 is adjusted for speedregulation by the driver's hand lever 19, which moves the armature 16 of a transmitter 9 energized from A.C. mains 10, and so produces a resultant e.m.f. in a circuit 17, 18, including the armature 13 of a receiver 8. Normally the armature windings have induced e.m.fs. which neutralize one another due to their being in similar positions relative to their fields 11, 12, and the resultant e.m.f. rotates armature 13 one way or the other, depending on its direction, and, by means of linkage 7 and piston 5 and valve 6, varies the tension of the governorcontrol spring 3. The engine-driven generator 20 is excited to constant voltage by means of the resistance 21, 23 operated by piston 5. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown) a D.C. shunt generator has three additional brushes which are rotated by the driver to vary the current in a three-lead circuit to brushes of a receiver armature, which adjusts its position relative to the stator field and operates a similar linkage.
