[Class 38 (iv).] In a system in which the power of an internalcombustion engine is transmitted by a generator driven thereby to an electric motor, which may drive a vehicle, the excitation of the generator depends on the speed of the electric motor or of the vehicle. A centrifugal regulator driven from the axle may control resistances in the generator field circuit and the value of this resistance may be arranged to reach its maximum value at an intermediate point in the range of regulation. The generator may be separately excited or shunt wound. A solenoid fed from a tachometer dynamo may control the resistance.
