507,237. Automatic control systems. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., MARDIS, P. L., and CORNER, H. S. POUND. Oct. 8, 1937, No. 27358. [Class 38 (iv)] Speed.-A predetermined speed is maintained in an electric generating set by controlling the field excitation by means of a vibratory regulator 1 connected by a spring 3 to the speed responsive element 4 of a speed governor, one or more faces, including a pulsating force for producing vibration, being so applied to the vibrating element that all are in equilibrium over a certain working range only when the engine speed is at the predetermined value. As shown the mean force applied by the coil 9 which causes vibration is offset by a force applied by a coil 10 excited substantially in accordance with the generator excitation, being connected across the generator armature. Alternatively it may be connected in series relative with the generator field winding. A resistance regulator 14 may bo set to values appropriate to different engine speeds.
