Abstract

537,106. Ratchet-gearing. PETITJEAN, C. O., and WATERBURY FARREL FOUNDRY & MACHINE CO. Oct. 27, 1939, No. 28870. [Class 80 (iii)] In ratchet-mechanism for driving feed-rolls &c. in which the feed can be interrupted, when desired, by disengaging the pawl from the ratchet-wheel, the disengaging-means is locked out of operation during the feed-stroke, so as always to ensure a full feed of material. The feed-pawl 21 is pivotally mounted an a carrier 19, which is reciprocated by a crank-disc 12 and a connecting-rod 16, and the pawl-pivot carries a notched collar 22, which can be rotated by a sliding pin 28 to disengage the pawl from the ratchet-wheel 18. The pin 28 can be raised by a plunger 25, Fig. 3, mounted on the carrier 19 and having a coned end, the plunger being connected by a head 27 with a grooved collar 49 on a sleeve 31, slidable co-axially with the ratchet-shaft, and operated by hand. During the feed-stroke of the pawl, the sleeve 31 is locked by a lever 43, which'engages the collar 49, so that the feed-pawl can neither be put in or out of engagement. During the idle stroke, the lever 43 is retracted by a rod 47 and a lever 46 operated by a cam 48 on the crank-disc 12.
