Abstract
536,924. Tanks. WHESSOE FOUNDRY & ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and NOONE, M. J. Feb. 21, 1940, No. 3276. [Class 69 (i)] Underground &c. tanks for storage of oil &c. are erected on a foundation in which a ring of substantially the same shape as the periphery of the tank is set, the tank being attached to the ring. The ring 5 may be circular, rectangular or polygonal and is built of sections of L-shape, the horizontal limb 5a of the sections being flush with the surface of the concrete foundation 6. Angle cleats 8 are welded to the ends of the sections, and connected by bolts &c. Rods 13 are welded in holes in the sections and key the latter to the concrete. The edge of the tank bottom 15 may be welded to the ring along the centre line of the limb 5a; a short length may be initially left open for pumping in bitumen or other corrosion preventative and the weld then completed. The tank shell 17, may be welded to the bottom. The ring may also constitute a drainage channel.
