Wells.-In a pumping unit for pipe or borehole pumping, a casting F forms the junction between the motor casing B and the pump casing E, and has a flange or seating F<2> to form a joint with the bore-hole or with the top of the pipe A<1>. The unit is lowered into position by a chain or cable J. More than one set can be used in one bore-hole A<3> as shown in Fig. 4. The smaller set passes to the lower position and the second set forms a joint at a wider part of the bore-hole. The upper set is larger than the lower set to deal with the influx of water between. the sets.
