Abstract

404,993. Deep-well pumps. POTTER, A. C., Dysart Road Ironworks, Grantham, Lincolnshire. April 19, 1932, Nos. 11249, 14043, and 21129. [Class 110 (i).] In deep-well pumping equipment the pump 1, Fig. 2, motor 2 and air bell 3 are formed as a unit, which can be lowered on to a seating 5 at the end of the rising main 4. The air bell is replenished at intervals by means of an air compressor, which may be put into operation by an hydraulic or clockwork timing device, the air being admitted to the well casing until the liquid has been depressed below the level of passages 8 leading to the air bell. Alternatively the air may be admitted to the annular space between tubes 15, 16 forming the wall of the rising main. The sections of the tubes are connected by means of unions 21 formed with passages 25, and the outer tube 16 extends below the level of the passages 8. Alternatively the air is conducted to the bell 3 by means of a pipe from the surface. The rising main 4, Fig. 8, may be formed with an extension 48, the lower end of which is closed by a check valve 51. This valve is opened by the pump unit when the unit is lowered on to the seating 5.
