536,542. Automatic guns. DOBREMYSL, J. Jan. 6, 1940, No. 350. [Classes 92 (ii) and 119] Aircraft machine guns subject to "icing-up" at high altitudes are provided with an auxiliary power device for imparting a forward movement to the breech mechanism. In the form shown, a cartridge-operated device of the pistol or revolver type acts by means of a piston-operated bolt 11 on the breech block 15 when this is released from the open position to fire the first shot. The hammer 3 of the pistol is cocked against the action of a spring 16 by a cable device 8 acting on a cocking lever 7. The hammer is retained by a detent 5 released through a link 6 when the main trigger of the gun is actuated. Gas under pressure may be used for operating the device and if the exhaust gases from the aircraft engine are used, they serve to melt the ice.
