Abstract

536,521. Heating vehicles. SERCK RADIATORS, Ltd., and KEMP, J. V. L. June 12, 1940, No. 10253. [Class 64 (ii)] Steam generated in an instantaneous generator f, Fig. 1, in the exhaust pipe b passes through a pipe g to the top of an air-heater a having a sump' d for condensate which is returned to the generator by a pump m, the return being so controlled by a valve n that flow is interrupted or retarded as the pressure or temperature in the system rises to a certain limit. The air heater a, Fig. 2, is arranged above the steam generator f which is placed in a byepass v on the exhaust pipe b, and condensate is returned to a sump t arranged below the generator and heated by contact with the exhaust pipe to generate steam which forces the condensate through a tube x into the generator in the exhaust pipe. A damper w in the byepass is controlled in accordance with the steam pressure or temperature. In a modification, the sump is mounted separately below the generator and is heated by a tube through which hot gases are taken from the exhaust pipe under the control of a valve operated in accordance with the pressure or temperature in the system.
