[Class 132 (i)] A channel section guard for the blade of an ice skate is formed of india rubber or rubber-like material with a pocket at one end to receive the heel of the blade and with its other end fashioned to accommodate ' the toe portion of the blade and with means for securing the guard in position on the blade, and has its toe and heel portions reinforced and rendered substantially inextensible or inelastic and the zone intermediate these regions capable of stretching to enable a guard of given length to be used for a blade of any length within a predetermined range. As shown, the guard is moulded of india rubber or synthetic rubber-like material and comprises a tread portion 1, sides 2, and a tab 3 co-operating with a stud for securing the guard on the blade. A pocket 5 is provided to receive the heel of the blade. The toe and heel portions of the guard have the tread 1 and the sides 2 thick and optionally of hard rubber, and the middle portion may be thin and optionally of soft rubber. Canvas or like insertions 6, 7 may be provided in the toe and heel portions. and the end wall 8 of the heel pocket 5 is thick and the insertions 7 are carried up this wall and into the top wall 9. The sides 2 in the front may be reinforced at their edges in the toe portions by insertions 10 of cord or piano wire. The sides may be relatively thick where they join the tread at 12, at the top edges 20, and at the end 21 of the toe region. Integral stiffening ribs 22 are provided. The reinforcement may be carried up the sides of the heel guard. The tab may in a modification be fastened by a press fastener.
