Abstract

1470905 Shoe uppers PANKIN INTERNATIONAL Ltd 13 May 1975 [18 April 1975] 20045/75 Heading A3B A shoe 10 has an elastic gore 34 inserted between an outer tongue portion 22 and an inner lining 36, puckering a part of the tongue portion when relaxed to enable the shoe to adapt to differing feet widths. The embodiment shown is of a moccasin design with a tongue member 22 having a front portion 24, a middle or throat portion 26 having tabs 30, 32 and a rear flared section 28. The lining 36 comprises a rear section 38, a throat section 40 having tabs 42, 44, and a front section 41. The gore 34 is of elastic tape or rubber and has a configuration similar to the throat section 26 of the tongue member 22 but is of shorter length in its unstretched condition. In the assembly of a shoe, the tongue member 22 is stitched or glued along line 46 to a ramp 16. The gore 34 is stretched and glued to the inner side of the tongue 22 at the throat section 26, and the lining member 36 is glued to the tongue member 22 and the gore 34 and tabs 42, 44 engaging the tabs 30, 32. The glued assembly is then stitched by the tabs to the vamp 16 along lines 48, 50, the gore being stitched only on the inner lines of stitching 48b. This arrangement puckers the tongue, which smoothes out to some extent when the shoe is worn.
