Abstract

The flipper, designed to augment the foot propulsion element of swimming motion combines a boot (1) with a webbed blade extension (2). Pref. the elements of the flipper are fabricated as an integral unit of rubber or synthetic material, or as boot and foot extension elements permanently joined by vulcanisation. The webbed foot extension can take any functionally appropriate form and the boot is provided with access slits (3) and fastenings giving maximum foot accessibility. Fastenings are typically sliding clasp fasteners or hook and eyelet arrangements on a vertical legging slit. An adjustable strap (4) extends from the side of the blade extension around the heel of the boot.
