Abstract

1465933 Securing shoes T H JANSEN and D T M JANSEN 6 Aug 1974 [14 Aug 1973] 34530/74 Heading A3B A shoe, especially a sports shoe, with a row of lace holes at either side of an instep slot 10 in the shoe upper 6 has an elastically extensible covering flap 1-locally attached e.g. stitched, to the upper-which lies over the lace holes 5, 5 and the instep slot 10 in removable relation thereto, and when no lace is used in the shoe the flap takes over the fixing function thereof and holds the two sides of the upper 4, 7 with respect to one another and thus holds the shoe on the foot. In an embodiment the flap is stitched along one side 4 to the upper 6 outward of the lace holes 5 on that side, and when in use is secured by its other side 7 to the other side of the shoe upper by a hook and loop type tape 8 outward of the respective row of lace holes 5. The flap 1 has webs of elastic material 9 incorporated therein to accommodate different instep heights. Additional attachment means, e.g. press buttons 11, may be provided on the flap 1. Further a decorating/reinforcing strip 12 may be fixed around the shoe with its ends located at the edge portions 4, 7 of the covering flap; the strip is preferably made of rubber.
