Abstract

536,045. Knitting. JACQUARD KNITTING MACHINE CO., Inc. Aug. 13, 1940, No. 12945. Convention date, Aug. 15, 1939. [Class 74 (ii)] Relates to cams for operating stitch-forming elements of knitting-machines, e.g. needles, sinkers, pressers, and warp- or warp-thread guides. The invention enables changes to be made in the position of the cams while actually passing over stitch-forming elements. The device may comprise two cams 25, 26 acting on long and short butted needles respectively. Cam 25 is mounted on a vertically slidable post 32, while cam 26 is mounted on a post 35. The upper ends of the posts carry rollers 84, 36 working in the grooves of cam wheels 37, 38, provided with star wheels 44. The cam 25 is first moved to the upper position, by turning the corresponding star wheel 44. This is done when a long butt needle 47 (Fig. 3), has just passed off the cam 25. Cam 26 is then moved up by turning its corresponding star wheel and this done immediately a short butt needle 46 has left it. Cams 25, 26 are moved down similarly, but cam 26 precedes 25. A modification in which the needle raising cams are pivoted is described.
