535,581. Casting articles having an inlaid character or sign. LANDIS & GYR AKT.-GES. Oct. 12, 1939, No. 27721. Convention date, Oct. 13, 1938. [Class 87 (ii)] Articles of artificial resin or like thermoplastic material having an inlaid character or sign therein are manufactured by making the body of the article with grooves or channels therein, or projections thereon, corresponding to the character or sign, enclosing the body between a mould and a plunger that engages the grooved face or the projections, so that a hollow space is formed beneath the plunger, and injecting a filling material, which differs in colour from the body, through a conduit in the plunger into the hollow space. The upper face of the article is then smoothed by a grinding or polishing disc or the like. As shown, a mould 1 corresponding in form to the body of the article is provided with a plunger 2 the lower face of which carries the desired character in relief. Thermo-plastic material is injected through an inlet gap 3<SP>1</SP> so that a body 4 results having in its upper face grooves 5 in the form of the desired character. The plunger 2 is then replaced by a plunger the lower face of which rests on the face of the body 4 and thermo-plastic material is injected through a passage in the plunger into the grooves 5.
