Abstract
650,692. Injection-moulding lenses &c. TEKSUN, Inc. June 17, 1947, No. 15957. Convention date, Nov. 28, 1944. [Class 87 (ii)] Articles, such as lenses, having varying contours, are moulded in split moulds formed in mould blocks 10, 12. The lower block 10 has a rotatable die block 18 containing several (four) forming pads 29, each having a different shape, which may be rotated to co-oparate with any one of the corresponding fixed die pads 40 in the mould block 12. Thus, if four pads are used in each block, sixteen differently shaped articles may be made in four casting operations. The die block 18 is held against axial movement by an anchor block 181 and a shaft 20 which has a tapered part 21 to engage the block 18<SP>1</SP>. The block 18 is held against rotary movement by a bolt 52, Fig. 3, which engages in one of several (four) spaced holes 50 in the mould block 10. The mould cavity is formed between the pads by a raised surface 32, around each of the forming pads, which keeps the pads apart when the mould blocks are pressed together. Thermoplastic material may be injected through the sprue channel 45 and gates 46. The pads may be marked near their edges with a symbol indicating the dioptic power of the lens formed by the pads. Air escapes, during injection, between the faces of the mould blocks.
