Abstract

535,534. Nickel-iron alloys. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS, GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN. April 8, 1940, No. 6349. Convention date, April 11, 1939. Addition to 448,046. [Class 82 (i)] [Also in Group XXII] In making magnetic cores of the kind disclosed in the parent Specification, nickel-iron alloy containing under 0.01 per cent. of phosphorus is used. This is stated to reduce the hysteresis loss and a still greater reduction may be effected by adding to this alloy, during melting some calcium, or an alloy thereof, e.g. calcium-silicon or calcium-aluminium or both. An alloy comprising equal parts of iron and nickel and 0.003 per cent. of phosphorus which had 0.2 per cent. of calcium added during melting gave a hysteresis factor of 1.85 and one containing 0.004 of phosphorus with 0.6 added calcium-silicon a factor of 1.8.
