[Class 78 (v)] A winch or capstan drum c is driven by a unidirectional electric motor a, and the reversal is effected through worm and toothed gearing and clutches. The motor shaft d carries a toothed wheel l in constant mesh with toothed wheels m, n, mounted loosely on two parallel shafts g, f carrying fixed worms i, h. Worm wheels k, j, fixed on the drum shaft e, are in constant mesh with the worms i, h. The wheels m, n are connectible to their shafts g, f through clutches o, p, which may incorporate brakes. The pitch of the worms is such as to allow the inoperative worm-wheel to over-run its worm.
