Abstract
535,074. Making socketed screws. HOLOKROME SCREW CORPORATION. Oct. 2, 1939, No. 27052. Convention date, Oct. 6, 1938. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] Forging ; drawing; forging-dies; shearing- adjuncts.-Socketed screw blanks are produced by a combined upsetting and drawing operation. Stock 3 fed to a stop 5 has a length cut off by a shearing adjunct and transfer slide 4 for insertion by a heading-punch 13 into a die 7 until arrested by a plunger 11 when the punch upsets it into the coned mouth 8, Fig. 3, of the die. The punch slide is then traversed laterally taking a punch 21 into line with the die. On the next stroke the punch forces the blank into the die closing the end round the reduced end 22, Fig. 5, of the punch; the plunger 11 retiring as the blank advances, and then advancing again to eject the finished blank. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 described also a modification in which the punch slide has three punches, the centre punch producing a preliminary upsetting without hollowing, This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
