Abstract

534,999. Agitators for washing machines. BEATTY BROS., Ltd. Jan. 26, 1940, No. 1670. Convention date, Feb. 9, 1939. [Class 138 (ii)] The agitator is constructed with substantially radial blades 13 extending from a hub 12 extending up from a base 10 and shaped to carry the laundry forward on one stroke and slide past it on the return stroke of the rotary oscillation; and a turning blade 14 is preferably arranged to extend angularly from each main blade to turn over the clothes on each return stroke during which they are being squeezed between the main blades and the hub. The blades 13 may have perforations 11, and may be curved as shown in Fig. 1, or extend tangentially from the hub as shown in Fig. 8, or may be graduadly reduced in width from the top to the base and curved forwardly at their free edges.
