Abstract

534,703. Covers, &c. for resisting fluid pressure. YORSTON. J., and TECALEMIT, Ltd. Sept. 15, 1939, No. 25898. [Class 123 (i)] [Also in Group I] A closure device, applicable generally in connection with covers or doors which are to be made fluid tight, is described as applied to a filter container. A recess 3a in the cover 1 is provided with inwardly projecting lugs 3b and the rim of the container 7 with beaded segments 7b which can pass between the lugs and, on slight rotation, support the container thereon. Sealing is effected by means of a ring 17 of resilient material which, under compression, engages the wall of the container and the inner wall of the recess 3a. The filter element which may be as described in Specification 501.667. [Group I], is supported between upper and lower plates 15, 18, the plate 18 being supported by a spring 19. The plate 15 has a central boss 15b screw-threaded internally for engagement with a tubular plug member 9 which passes through the cover. When the member 9 is turned by means of a tommy-bar 10, a wall 15c projecting upwardly from the rim of the plate 15 compresses the ring 17 and makes a fluid tight joint. The arrangement is such that the pressure on the sealing ring due to the pressure of fluid in the container is that of the fluid acting on the axially projected area of the ring 17.
