[Class 51 (ii)] [Also in Group XIII] In a regenerative open hearth furnace tunnels such as 27 are arranged below the ground level and beneath the furnace for a workman to obtain access to the flues 24 at the base of the regenerators for removing dust &c. The regenerators are formed with vertical smooth walled passages formed by columns of bricks 35 which contact at their corners only. Dust accumulating on top of the columns is removed and caused to fall down into the flues 24 by suitable cleaning implements inserted through ports 39.
